As I look through our upstairs lounge window towards the Lakeland fells, there’s still a hint of snow on the high ground. Gladly for us at 600 feet, all our snow has gone. The Lake District is beautiful in the Winter and has looked absolutely magical this season whilst the snow was on the ground. Up at Yad Moss near Alston, they have their own ski slope and button lift and continue to enjoy fabulous skiing conditions!
Near Hartside cafe, a popular biker haunt, there’s still a good four feet of snow along the final straight of Hartside Pass as you head up from Penrith. We get the odd slushy snow fall (like the other night when I was driving over Orton Scar towards Appleby, which was interesting) but this doesn’t stay.
It’s one of the first winters when we’ve not managed to get on our motorcycles due to weather. Even the annual Boxing Day Rideout was cancelled! It’s been a long Winter but I’m pleased to say that the warmer weather and lighter nights are coming.
We’re want to say thanks to those who have already made bookings for the Summer months, including for our three day Lakes & Lochs Tours and Scottish trips. We look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as meeting new ones!
Remember we can offer motorcycle hire and advanced rider training through our partner companies. If there’s any advice you require on Lake District accommodation for a variety of budgets, give us a call.
In the meantime, happy biking!
